Buffering every 10 seconds? Here is why

A steady rhythm of pauses has a specific cause. That makes it easier to fix.

What the rhythm means

Your player keeps a small reserve of video, the buffer. If video arrives a little slower than it plays, the reserve empties, the player pauses to refill, plays again, and empties again. That creates the steady "every few seconds" pattern.

Fixes, in order

  1. Raise the buffer size in the player to Large. A bigger reserve rides out small slowdowns.
  2. Improve the connection: cable, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi closer to the router.
  3. Pick a lower quality version of the channel if your service offers one.
  4. Switch decoder between Hardware and Software.
  5. Check your speed in the evening, on the same device.

Rule of thumb

If the pattern happens on every channel, it is your connection or device. If only one channel does it, it is that stream. Tell your provider the channel name and the time.
